Sameie (co-ownership)

A sameie is when two or more people own something together, each with their own share; equal shares apply only when nothing else can be shown (sameigelova).

A sameie is when two or more people own something together, for example a home, each holding their own share. The rules follow from the sameigelova. The shares need not be equal: each co-owner owns the part they have actually paid for, and equal shares apply only when nothing else can be shown. If you buy a home together, it therefore pays to write down the ownership split in black and white from the start, so it matches what each of you has put in. In housing, a flat in an eierseksjonssameie is a form of sameie, where you own your own unit and a share of the common areas together with the others. Agree the split before you bid, and get it into the purchase contract.
