Skimmelsvamp (mould)

Mould is a symptom of moisture, not a defect in itself. It grows where a surface has stayed damp: behind furniture on cold exterior walls, in bathrooms, basements and crawl spaces. It only appears in the Danish condition report if visible and accessible, so a clean report is no proof of a dry house.

Mould follows the moisture. If you do not find and remove the source, it comes back no matter how thoroughly you clean.

Prolonged time in damp rooms can cause irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, a blocked nose, coughing and wheezing. A small, dry surface patch is rarely a health problem.

The cost to fix it varies a lot, from a few thousand kroner for a small surface patch to tens of thousands for larger, moisture-driven growth. When buying an owner-occupied home, mould is generally your risk after completion, so the cost belongs in your bid.

Visible mould is something to investigate, not proof of an expensive fault. Trace the patch back to its source, and have a building surveyor assess the doubtful spots before you bid.
