Ferdigattest (completion certificate)

A ferdigattest is the municipality’s confirmation that a permit-required building work is finished and meets the terms of the building permit; permit-required works are to be closed with a ferdigattest. If the ferdigattest is missing, find out why. Works applied for before 1 January 1998 get no ferdigattest, so for older homes its absence is not unusual. For newer extensions, or a converted basement or loft, a missing ferdigattest can mean the work is not lawfully completed or not approved for permanent living. As a buyer, check whether an extension, garage, or converted basement has a ferdigattest or a temporary use permit, and if it is missing on a newer work, ask the agent what remains before you bid.
